Kay F 600 MIJ (1970s)
In the mid-1970s, brands such as Harmony and Kay moved their production to Japan and other Asian countries due to the crisis and the cost of labor.
It's a dreadnought-sized guitar. It has a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and ebonized maple for the fingerboard and bridge. It has an adjustable steel truss rod accessible through the soundhole. It appears to have been built in the late 1970s.
It has a magnetic pickup installed in the soundhole, with volume control and output through the jack on the bottom. Professionally installed, without noise or buzzing.
It is in perfect condition, just as it left the factory, since it has not been used.
It has been adjusted for easy playability and correct tuning, with a height of 2 mm at the 12th fret.
It has new 0.11 bronze strings.
Kay Musical Instrument Company Chicago, established in 1890
Kay is known for his large production of mid-range instruments, but he also built quality instruments that were used by artists of the time, including a line of electric guitars endorsed by Barney Kessel .
Kay sold guitars under his own name as well as a plethora of brands such as Silvertone for Sears, Sherwood and Airline for Montgomery Ward, Old Kraftsman for Spiegel, Rex for Gretsch,
The Kay name (and some of its brands, such as Knox) were acquired by Teisco's importer, Weiss Musical Instruments (WMI, owned by Sylvain Weindling and Barry Hornstein), who put the Kay name on Teisco products starting in 1973, and continuing through the 1970s.
In 1980, AR Enterprises (Tony Blair) purchased the Kay brand. In 2008-2009, the California-based Kay Guitar Company reissued 12 vintage Kay guitar and bass models made by Fritz Brothers Guitars. Production and sales of these guitars have continued since 2013.
