Hofner 458 model (11-9-1959)
Built in 1959 with very high-quality African sapele wood, this is what sets it apart from other Hofner archtops, which are predominantly maple.
This model has a thinner body and a thicker, deeper sound than other models. It features a binding of excellent Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and a 64.5 cm scale. It has a sweeter sound than maple...
It is the "deluxe" version of the 456 model, which in turn is the "deluxe" version of the 455 model.
It has a 64.5 cm scale. The frets are the original jumbo (nickel silver) frets, reconditioned and polished. The varnish is a transparent chocolate color.
The build date is written under the top, which can be seen with a mirror. It's extremely comfortable to play and allows for extremely fine tuning, with a 2 mm adjustment for the first fret at the 12th fret.
This model had very low production and was only maintained for 11 years; the cutaway models are rarer. It is strung with 0.11/52 steel strings.
The guitar has been thoroughly checked, tuned, octaved, etc... And is ready to play and enjoy!
All parts are original. It has some signs of wear, normal for its age, but it's in very good condition and has a great sound!
